Is Max the Manatee already in the rescue truck!? Hasn’t anybody been monitoring and guarding him all this time!?
Well, if this Storm Brain NPO is so connected, who needs Mark to publicize Max the Manatee? With Mark’s puny social media following (just a few hundred more than mine, I think!), it’s a wonder how his name even wound up at the top of any Internet search (see Saturday’s strip for that reference, if you missed it).
As for “getting” the manatee rescue truck, I assume they mean “renting” the truck, since the actual cost has to be pretty high (>$100,000), owing to its special construction and gear. There really are manatee rescue/transport trucks, by the way.
One such truck was featured in news stories in Palm Beach, Florida in 2022. The one pictured in this photo was donated to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, which counts rescuing and tracking manatees as part of its mandate.
It bears a striking resemblance to the one Rivera drew. And that is perfectly fine, of course. Don’t reinvent the wheel if you don’t have to.
Art Dept: For today, I’ll let you all handle that analysis.

The first panel has a certain grade-school, two-dimensional feel.
I find the proportions in that panel intriguing, especially between the truck and the building. On December 26, the door on the building was shown to be a regular-sized door (what happened to the window on the right?). Did the truck shrink or did the building grow?
The placement of the items is confusing. Is the truck parked on the grass or floating in the air? Is it parked in front of the building, too? How is that possible?
The issues with the proportions and placement of the truck make it look like a last second decision to copy and paste it into the panel.
Why is everyone standing so far away from the building and the truck?
Skeeter ought to have a doctor examine his right arm. Was it run over by the truck? What happened to his fingers? 😝🤢
The trees look like two-dimensional props.
Too nitpicky?

Too nitpicky, Be Ware?! Naw, nothing’s too nitpicky when it comes to the Trailverse! Those are all good observations, by the way, especially the floating truck and flat trees. Overall, it looks like some kind of stage set. As for the building, I think we are looking at the back, whereas Mark’s rental car is parked in front.
Maybe they are standing farther away from the truck so nobody else gets their arm run over!
