The report continues.

That’s it, Mark. Gaslight Bill Ellis to ensure he thinks it’s all the fault of Tad Crass and his dry grass, just to ensure you get a free pass for your trespass.

<Whew! Enough of that for now!>

Art Dept. What’s with Mark’s face in panel 4? Rivera normally handles foreshortening well. But here, Mark’s face looks like a losing submission to a “Draw Mark Trail” contest.

  1. Sigh… There is no such thing as an “AI Data Center”. They are simply data centers that run the internet. Jules is trying to make the system that distributes her product into an evildoer worthy of scorn. Artificial Intelligence is not bad, though its application can be.

Mark Trail needs to rid the world of toxic polluters, bandits and poachers, not tech entrepreneurs.

    • In general, I agree. But, some data centers do specialize their work (digital currency, NFTs, etc., when they’re not stealing time on other computers), so I think you could commonly refer to them by their specialization.

As for Mark’s foci, I do credit Rivera for trying to bring Mark into a more modern world that is not populated solely by backwoods poachers, crooked fishermen, half-arsed arsonists, and small-time grifters. Sure, they are always fun targets to send Mark against, and I’d like to see Rivera continue to prop them up once or two a year for Mark’s target practice.

So, go after polluters? You bet. Crooked businesses whose affairs affect natural resources? I’m fine with that. AI data center? It is a stretch, unless you make the case in the story that it is harming the environment. Shifting wild horses out of the way is not a compelling reason for Mark to be involved. Get a lawyer.

Unfortunately, for a 21st century “Mark Trail”, he is still too clueless about technology and its implications. And Rivera has not really teamed him up with a qualified wingman or sidekick to fill in the voids. Diana could be that person, but her personality shift and emotional baggage weigh against it.
