State Fair Day Off

The fate of the cave explorers will have to wait a day. We (my wife and I) are heading out to the State Fair Thursday morning very early, so I won’t have enough time to put together a blog with any degree of interest, at least from my side. That means there will be a double-header on Friday.

In the meantime, I’m looking forward to fried cheese curds; roasted corn-on-the-cob; shakshuka lamb meatballs; Hmong corndogs; variously-prepared puff pastray-wrapped pork sausage slices on a stick; a concoction of pound cake layered with roasted bananas, butterscotch sauce, etc., and topped with whipped cream and some other stuff; some eat-right-away choc chip cookies, maybe a milk shake, and some mini donuts. I’m not sure what I’ll get in the afternoon, though. Maybe a foot-long hotdog or a pork chop on a stick. Can’t go wrong with pork chops! For those interested, there are plenty of vegetarian foods as well, and I’ll probably sample a few of them, too.

Hope you enjoy my day off!

  1. Well, we decided not to go. Instead, we will be on Madeline Island to close cabin. We’ll go to Apple Fest in Bayfield and get all our fun there. Crowds, yes but not like the fair.

  2. I’m going to the Great Minnesota Sweatogether tomorrow to see Weird Al and four more times after that. None of the musical acts at the free stages really interested me so I’ll decide if I’m in the mood in the morning. I’m definitely going on Labor Day. So, until then … Fair Thee Well!

  3. Got back, totally wiped out from the crowds, the heat, the long lines, and the empty wallet. And Day 1 is generally not the largest crowd, either. I had to cast off a lot of my eating ideas, in part, because I didn’t relish reliving the attraction lines in Disneyworld. The lines for a state fair malt (located in the back of the Dairy Building) were all the way back out to the front entrance. 45 mins, easy. I can get better malts at one of the local malt shops. I did better scoring a bag of Tom Thumb mini-donuts and a glass of fresh-squeeze lemonade. Ohhhhh, that was very refreshing!
