It’s the stuff dreams are made of

Poor ol’ southern boy Honest Ernest. Who knew he had any awareness of classical music? Well, I suppose he might pick up something here and there, under the spell of Miss Violet. Falling for a married woman (as Violet Cheshire is supposed to be) can be really tough. And it would explain at least some of Honest Ernest’s egregious behavior.

But Ernest is doomed to play the loser, but not one of the lovable losers, because he has few redeeming qualities, as all regular readers know. Speaking of which, where is this husband of Violet’s, anyway? Has anybody ever seen him? Is he even aware that Violet and Honest Ernest shared a few intimate moments in the past (when Ernest was still married, as well)? Clearly, Jules Rivera doesn’t think Violet’s husband could contribute anything to this strip. However, he could fill the occasional visiting character role of showing up to find Ernest and knock his head in. We could have the occasional day of V’s husband chasing Honest Ernest around the village and into the forest. Kind of a running joke, I think.

Well, it’s the middle of the week. What will Honest Ernest do? Will he wind up getting attacked once again? Will he annihilate the bat population as he pledged? Or will he discover the bats finally took off on their own?

  1. I keep forgetting Violet is married.

Is the music hall open to everyone? Did Violet give Ernest a key or did he just kick the doors open? 🤷‍♀️
