They say that lawbreakers often return to the scene of the crime…

After helping instigate this destructive fire, Mark and Diana have the moxie to actually return to the  site and review the results. I have to say that panel 1 has the oddest smoke I’ve seen, assuming that is what those weird light blue shapes are.

Well, the other shapes are a bit weird, too. The narration box mentions a plain fire and I’m not sure what that means, unless it suggests comparisons with a fancy fire, perhaps?

Moving on, how do you think will this week play out? Will Tad Crass show up with police reinforcements? Will we have a week of Mark and Diana apologizing to Bill? If I was Bill Ellis, I’d have a whole lot of questions for those two. I’m sure you do, too. Why not post a few?

  1. I had to go back to February to find that Mark is working for Daggers dba Instigator Magazine. Which should preempt most of Bill’s questions.

    • Technically true! He should be celebrating not being on the hook for damages this time. However, excrement floats to the surface and an aggressive attorney for Crass might not stop with Diana, since Bill acted as Mark’s agent. That is, unless some kind of agreement had been signed removing Ellis and his company from any responsibility for Mark’s all-too-common transgressions.

But what am I talking about?!? This is a comic strip and Jules has never seen fit to haul Mark before a judge.

  2. What happened to the Plainsight, Inc. personnel? Have they fled the site?

The AI data center didn’t have any form of a fire suppression system? That seems highly unlikely.

Was Ted Crass on the helicopter? Or was he broadcasting from the compound?

Is it possible to hang a screen like that from a real-life helicopter? I’d be afraid of the screen possibly ending up in the rotors somehow. Also, wouldn’t the screen make the helicopter unbalanced and difficult to fly?

What happened to the helicopter after knocking over the transformer? Did it crash? Land safely? Return to base? Flee from the wrath of Ted Crass?

    • All good questions, which means we likely won’t get any answers to most of them. I have a few notions:

Tad was not in the chopper, but streaming remotely. You can tell by his clothes and background, compared to the two chopper pilots.

It’s likely the data center was in the back lot of the main building, possibly hidden by natural rock formations or fencing.

  3. By “plain fire” I think Jules means a fire that occurred on the open plains, as opposed to a “mountain fire.” This is just a guess.

    • Very likely. I was a bit tongue-in-cheek, counting on “plain fire” being another typo in the strip. The strip has been posting several typos recently, which does not speak well of the KFS editors.
