Whose cartoon bubble is this, anyway?

As the Sheriff describes the mayhem connected to the train derailment, we are left to consider a scene that defies logic and reason, which, even as it pertains to clowns, ought to have some connection…

Questions immediately come to mind:  Why are they still all dressed up and in costume?  Do they never take the grease paint off, don their mufti and be civilians?  Guessing that’s THE GREAT WILHELM in the foreground… What’s with his right arm?  It’s freakishly developed, especially compared to his left, which is withered and undeveloped.  And how does that little hat stay on his head?  And does he really look like he’s been clowning for 65 years?  That would put him in his eighties.  The wonders of makeup, I suppose.

  1. The clown with the giant arm looks a bit like Puddles Pity Party. The thinner clown looks like Binky from the movie Shakes the Clown (the Citizen Kane of alcoholic clown movies) although I don’t think Binky sported a red rubber nose. Maybe he kicked his coke habit.
